Territory

The Amalfitan coast is geografical represented by the peninsular territory situated between the gulf of Naples and the gulf of Salerno. The landscape is characterised by the combination of sea and mountains, rich of bays and inlets, offen only accessible from the sea, like the splendid cave of Smeraldo at Conca dei Marini and the fiord of Furore. The territory is strongly steep and in some places the mountains fall into the sea with strong slopes, cliffs and steep rocks, like at some places near Positano and Vietri sul Mare, zones where the nature is almost completly uncontaminated, like the oasis of Vallone di Porto, 3 km. before Positano. Thirteen of the villages of the Amalfitan coast unfurl them to the Salernitan side of Monti Lattari, Positano and Vietri sul Mare, while Corbora is situated along the ridge of the mountain pass of Chiunzi, that draws one of the historical ways of the Amalfitan territory. The area is occupated by the environmental unity of Monti Lattari, formation of calcareous nature, 1425 m. high. Monte S. Angelo at Torre Pizzi has the most elevated relief. The Monti Lattari are a reference of a, not yet delimited, regional parc.
